The Construction of Identity 2019
Glass paint on glass
This piece shows an expanded person. The backmost layer mimics Giacometti’s ‘no eraser’ rule that allows him to show the process of making his piece. I implemented this idea to show how one is made. The frontmost layer shows face fragments coming in and out, held with hands that symbolize society. This shows that identity shifts constantly through the influence of the environment. I used glass paint so viewers could see through layers to convey that the construction of identity is never-ending.
